This picture depicts stalin at lenin's funeral close to lenin's side and holding the christian ritual tool in his hand. This picture depicts Stalin being extremely close to Lenin and single handedly doing all the rituals whilst those around him just help to attend to Stalin. This picture was probably taken to let people know that the actual fact was that Stalin was very close to Lenin. Everyone thought that Trotsky being very close to Lenin would be the one doing whatever Stalin was doing now.

My first impression of this picture was about what a jerk Stalin was to Trotsky. Poor trotsky who was sick somewhere and Stalin who had tha advantage of being in town told Trotsky the wrong date of Lenin's funeral. Many followers of Lenin and supporters of Trotsky were dissappointed in him for missing Lenin's funeral. All of them including Lenin (before he died) wanted Trotsky to be the next Lenin. But Trotsky's abscence at the funeral was a great letdown to all of them.But none of them knew the fact that Stalin had plotted this and gave Trotsky the wrong date. This incident gave many people the idea that Stalin was the actual person who was close to Lenin and thus many people decided to vote for Stalin to be the next Lenin. Subsequently, Stalin totally got rid of Trotsky by appointing (because he could) people in high positions. Thus, this people would then support him and vote for him. He got rid of Trotsky partly because of this incident partly and by hook or by crook. I think personally, that Stalin did have an advantage and that trotsky was stupid to NOT have done anything to secure his position as he felt "safe". This picture once again also went out to the people to show them that Trotsky didnt do anything for Lenin and that Trotsky was a lousy leader. Thus this incident also caused people to not vote for Trotsky and instead vote for Stalin because he was "loyal" and concerned. This is how Stalin rose to power.
