In this picture it is seen that little kids are running up with flowers to other gifts to present to Stalin. This is obviously a form of propaganda he was using to gain support from the Russia people. This is an example of manipulation of opinion, by foul means rather than fair, with lies or half-truths, and with deceit. He was trying to portray himself as a fatherly, cheerful and popular man with little children running to him with gifts in their hands. It was supposedly suppose to be thanking him for giving them a happy childhood. This was a way he could win support from the peasants.
In my personal opinion this picture is obviously not true as millions of people died under the rule of Stalin. As Stalin's reign stretched on, there were many who hated him, but they did not voice it for fear of the NKVD. In an article that I came across it also states that he was one of those rare terrible dogmatists capable of destroying nine tenths of the human race to 'make happy' the one tenth. Methodical, all embracing, and total as a criminal. Stalin is one of the most extraordinary personalities in human history, perhaps the most extraordinary. Much has been written about him, but it is from the testimony of insiders that we can best understand his unique character and how it enabled him to become undisputed ruler of the Soviet empire. From the statement above we can see the complex nature of his personality, one thing not difficult to discern is his cruelty. People recognized him as "a dark, cunning, and cruel individual." "Every crime was possible to Stalin, for there was not one he had not committed. Whatever standards we use to take his measure to him will fall the glory of being the greatest criminal in history. "There was unquestionably something sick about Stalin," he wrote, and noted that it as "Stalin's compulsive urge to arrest people and have them eliminated," Despite this "compulsive urge" to be cruel to people, Stalin nonetheless managed to climb from the position of anonymous revolutionary to omnipotent leader. It is clear, then, that he must have possessed certain qualities that made that possible. Although he is a very intelligent man I feel that he should have used his intelligence in a different way. A way that could also prevent millions of people from getting killed during the period of collectivisation.
